Frequently Asked Questions

What sets you apart from other copywriters?

I have 30 years experience as a copywriter in the sports industry and have been the editor of close to 90 magazine issues and commemorative publications. I work with my clients to craft the best message to reach their goals.

Do you have a background in sports?
I have a bachelor’s degree in sports administration from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) and a master’s degree in sports management from Kent State University (Ohio).

I have worked BGSU logo for a college athletic department, a national sports association and a national sports magazine. I’ve had experience interacting with your target audience, whether it’s the casual fan, college student, athletic director, marketing manager, sponsorship director, company owner, team owner or league commissioner.

What kinds of assignments do you handle?
I cover the full spectrum. In addition to email copy, sales letters, newsletters and articles, I also write landing pages, case studies, white papers/special reports, advertorials/ sponsored content, scripts, press releases, blog posts, trade show collateral, awards entries and more.

What does it cost to hire you?
Please contact me for a list of some of the services I offer and an estimated investment range, along with a complete information packet on my services.

For magazines and newsletters, a monthly retainer rate will be determined based on a number of factors, including publication frequency, the length of a typical issue, amount of original writing, amount of editing of freelancers and contributors, coordinating the use of advertisements, etc.

What are your payment terms?
Depending on the size of the project, payment is either due in full in advance, or 50% is due upfront before I begin working on your project. Within 30 days delivery of the first draft or once I receive final approval from you, I’ll provide you with an invoice for the remaining 50%, which is payable upon receipt.

How long will it take you to write my copy?
This will depend upon the type and scope of your project. Ideally, I like to have two to three weeks to work on your copy. This gives me the time to write, edit and revise it until I’m satisfied with the entire piece. A long-form sales letter may require more time. However, if you need the copy sooner, we can discuss that possibility. The best course is to contact me as soon as you know of an upcoming project so I can put you on my schedule.

What happens if we want to revise the copy?
Your investment covers all of the work we have discussed and agreed upon and two rounds of revisions (within a 30-day window), as long as the scope of the project remains the same. If you decide you need additional work outside the scope of the project, I'll provide you with a second quote for the new project.

Is my information confidential?
Yes, all the information you provide that is not used in your copy project is confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of my production team.

How much notice do you need for a commemorative publication?
The time frame for every project is unique based on the factors mentioned above. Typically, a publication can take six months to a year for the research, writing, editing, production, and approval process.
